Craters like nuclear radiation disintegrating skin on skin;
wounds embedded; red ink, a dab of blood
on paper forged from reeds that reside on the banks of the Nile.
I run as the river rushes to foamy whites,
longing to eradicate that smile with silver blades
and iron bullets.
The rising tides,
holding on to me as you’ve once held my hand
but as of tonight
my company lies with the waning gibbous,
as the clouds pass it by.
How could it be
that months earlier we coexisted
as fire and ice?
Darkness and light entangled in a frivolous dance
that concluded in bitter folly:
my wraith, your white gown swaying under an unnatural eclipse
as I take your arm, threads go black
and we all fade into the night.
Step back, fall away;
blaring sirens like thunder from Zeus’ wrath
it moans on earth with resonating sound waves
shattering ear drums and structured fate.
And the magnitudes were so high that I felt the waters quiver.
Land gives way to wastelands as trees and vines decay,
the burning sun of a thousand suns lies directly east
yet it wounds in the west, a barren desert
where sand devours sand and shadows find their peace.
But in the midst of blue and black and the frigid breeze,
alone and united
I sit back on the desert sands as my eyes seem to find ease
watching the waning gibbous
as clouds pass it by.
